Today didn't start well but ended better. We set off down the '21' to find the pound between locks 2 & 3 virtually dry so we had to let water down to refill it which takes a lots of water and quite a long time. For the first half of the flight the locks were all against us which makes a slower journey and by the time we had worked through the first 15 locks my joints were letting me know it has been over four months since we did any cruising. Things speeded up somewhat when we met a boat coming up the flight as it meant I wasn't having to set the locks before we could go down. Ray realised I was tiring and took over lock duty for the last 5 locks.
We wanted to get out into the countryside so carried on about four miles down the Shroppie before we moored. I'm now sitting with the front doors open enjoying the sunshine before the evening chill descends.
Today's journey 6.4 miles and 22 locks.
